“Punk Is Not Dead” directed by Vladimir Blazevski, is the title of a new Macedonian film. It will be “black comedy,” a story about a former, defunct punk band that gets a chance to reunite.

First Shot of “D’Skopje” Film Omnibus
“D’Skopje,” is a film omnibus dedicated to the our capital. First shot of an animated film, “Pogan Pagan”, directed by Srgjan Janikievic, the first in a series of short films within the omnibus, will be taken. Actually, this project is the first activity of the New Film Video Production under which the film is being made.

“Replacement” by Marija Dzidzeva
Shooting of new film by Marija Dzidzeva titled “Replacement” will begin at the end of January. It is the Macedonian part of the omnibus film by female authors from the former Yugoslav republics, with the common topic of pregnancy, motherhood.

Zelimir Zilnik in Cinematheque
Serbian director Zelimir Zilnik, the winner of prestigious Golden Bear in 1969 for his film “Rani Radovi” is a guest of the Macedonian Cinematheque. Zilnik is known as one of the predecessors of the Yugoslav “black wave” in film together with Dusan Makavejev and Zika Pavlovic.

Macedonian film "Upside Down" directed by Igor Ivanov has won the special jury award at the fourth Moveast International Film Festival in Pecs, Hungary, which promotes feature films from Central-Eastern Europe.

Horror Film Shot Near Skopje
“Eden” is the title of the science-fiction horror film, which is being shot at Vodno mountain near Skopje. Vardan Tozija is the director, Mihajlo Cvetanov is the producer, Gjorgji Klincarov is the cinematographer. The cast includes Nikola Ristanovski and Verica Nedeska-Trajkova.

Most scenes of Macedonian-U.S. film “The Third Half”, directed by Darko Mitrevski, will be shot in Bitola, next spring. The film focuses on the holocaust of Macedonian Jews through the life story of famous coach of football club “Makedonija”, Iles Spic.

American Literature in Film
Film cycle American Literature Within Cinema, consisting of 10 anthological films will take place in the Cinematheque of Macedonia from 6th to 15th of December. A documentary, “I and My Life Without Some Things” authored by Ilija Piperkoski is opening at the Cinematheque on 26th October. The film is about a quest of a young Roma in Romania for his long lost father. According to Piperkoski, the story is nothing new because statistically, there are millions of abandoned children by their parents.

Great Film Stars Visit Macedonia for Film Shooting
Shooting a feature film “Time of the Comet” by director Fatmir Koci, started in Skopje. This is one of the largest projects shot in Macedonia with the budget of about 2.5 million euros. The screenplay is based on a novel by famous Albanian Nobel winner, Ismail Kadare, translated in a romantic comedy set in 1914, a few months ahead of the start of World War First.

Shooting of "The Balkans Is Not Dead" Starts in August
The first scene of "The Balkans Is Not Dead" will be shot on 2nd August 2007. Macedonian producer Kino Oko will shoot director Aleksandar Popovski's film in collaboration with Testament-film from Belgrade and Pi Film Production from Istanbul. Cejda Tufan of the Turkish production said the script will be worked on carefully because the story focuses on Kemal Ataturk.

A nostalgic TV-comedy "Pusto Tursko" directed by Kole Angelovski is opening at the Cinematheque of Macedonia. "In the 70-minute comedy, we used information from 'Confession of a Macedonian chetnik' by Albert Sonnicsen, US journalist who traveled across Macedonia in the early last century and whose notes included a lot of interesting details that enriched the picture of Macedonia in the post-Ilinden period", says director Angelovski.

The final scenes of "The Navel of the World" will be shot in Skopje and its surroundings. Based on Venko Andonovski's novel and directed by Igor Ivanov, the film was mostly shot last year, between 7 November and 21 December. Because of the weather conditions and compactness of the script entirety, the shooting is continuing this May and June.

"Does It Hurt?" - First Dogma Film in the Balkans
The film, based on the script of and directed by Aneta Lesnikovska, is a certain story based on true events and personalities, which it uses in the dogma shooting style. The co-producers of the film are the Dutch Film Institute and Agitprop, Bulgarian producer. "Does It Hurt?" will be shoot in locations in Skopje and partly in Ohrid in July and is expected to be completed by late August. The film stars Macedonian renowned actors Nikola Ristanovski, Irena Ristic, Dejan Lilic, Kamka Tocinovska, Visar Viska, Milijana Dodevska, Ertan Saban and Milan Tocinovski.

Milco Mancevski has closed the casting for his latest film "Bones". It includes Sabina Ajrula-Tozija, Marina Pop Pankova, Keti Ilievska, Dragan Miladinovski, Ljupco Bresliski, Zora Georgieva, Jordan Simonov, Izabela Novotni, Naxhi Shaban and Joana Poposka. Macedonian film "Contact", directed by Sergej Stanojkovski, had his Skopje's premiere in cinema "Millennium". The screening of this Macedonian-German co-production was attended by director Stanojkovski, who lives in Germany, German producer Marcello Buse, Macedonian producer Tomi Salkovski, as well as the Macedonian actors.

New Animation by Nikola Chikos - Film about Postmodern Man
Macedonian young computer animator Nikola Chikos is busily working on his new animated film, "To Do Something…" The 15-minute film is a story about the postmodern man deprived of the tranquility of great ideas for future, man left to himself and his quest for individuality and uniqueness. The hero is a wooden puppet, a kind of dispatcher moving objects from Start to Finish (two points at which the whole action takes place).

Aleksandar Popovski to Direct New Film - "The Balkans Is Not Dead," Film about Love and Religion
The film "The Balkans Is Not Dead" will deal with love, religion and the marks of the time in which the script authored by Dejan Dukovski sets the story. "I am not going to make a new Romeo and Juliet; rather I want to penetrate a bit deeper in the life in Macedonia at the beginning of the last century," director Aleksandar Popovski says. Shooting of the film will start in August.

Film "Bones" by Manchevski Applies for "Eurimages" Support
Latest film project by Milcho Manchevski enters a new stage of preparation. The film producers have applied for support from film fund "Eurimages", thus closing the movie's financial construction. The request will be reviewed at the "Eurimages" following session in Strasbourg in March. The film's producers from Italy, Germany and Bulgaria are visiting Macedonia these days. Renowned Spanish producer house "Tornasol" has also become a part of the film's realization, thus making it a production by five countries.

In July, FIDIMA, Film Head Office of Macedonia was replaced by the Company for distribution, review and inspection of films, called RASFILM, founded on August 9, and appointed by the Ministry of Education.

On 02.07.1947, a Commission for cinematography was founded by a Decree of the Goverment of the People Republic of Macedonia. The goals of this Commission were: organisation of film production, providing the technical equipment for such a production, preparing a development plan for establishing new cinemas etc.

In Strumica new cinema “Balkan” with 500 seats is opened.

The first release of documentary film “Along the Valley of the Vardar” in Ohrid.

The summer cinema theatre “Park” in Skopje started with regular screenings.

The catastrophic earthquake that struck Skopje on July 26, was the reason for the reduction in film production. After the earthquake, "Vardar Film" started producing newsreels again, so called "Skopje's Reporter". Only three issues were produced describing and recording the events immediately after the earthquake, taking away the ruins and rebuilding the city of Skopje.

On July 22-24, in Skopje, during the manifestation "Meetings of Solidarity", the First International Amateur Film Festival took place. 30 amateur films from England, Greece, Poland, Portugal, Romania, USSR, Czhechoslovakia, Hungary, Holland and Yugoslavia were shown.
