At
the beginning - there was light. And there
were many shadows
disabling the clear vision of the film phenomenon. The question
then, was if the film would be just another "Flea Fair"
of some film magician show, some short and forgettable sensation,
or something that will bring some new revolution in the
human's life? Anyway, the one who really invented the phenomenon
called film - was the spirit of the film pioneers. It was
the same case in Macedonia, too. The visions of the film
pioneers soon became reality and the film institutions appeared.
They organized and stimulated the film production. Before
the II World War, in Macedonia - that institution was the
"Office of Hygiene" from Skopje, the institution
that used the power of the film image for educational, noble
causes: for educating of the Macedonian people in the fight
against poverty, diseases and other (social & health
related) problems. But, the Liberation and the end of the
II World War marked the real beginning of the institutional
film production period in Macedonian cinematography. It's
the time of establishing the main film institutions in Macedonia,
who will remain, for a long period of time, as the pillars
of the cinema in Macedonia in all of its segments: Vardar
film, Macedonia Film, Bureau for Cultural and Educational
Film, Faculty of
Dramatic Arts, City
Cinemas, The Cinematheque of
Macedonia… In this list, we must mention the Macedonian
Television as well, with its huge realized opus gave a great
contribution to the forming of our visual conscience. The
transition period, although meant dropping the old ways
of things in our cinematography, actually brought to the
healthier (in potential) bases in Macedonia - for adjusting
the cinema issues to the global film "currents".
The new private initiatives, the young authors and the alternative
ways of financing will, eventually, bring new freshness
in the Macedonian cinema context.
