The genesis of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts (FDA) in Skopje began on 4th of November in 1969, when the Acting Department was founded and commenced its function at the Higher School of Music. By the enactment of the Law on Associated Labor (1976), there was an initiative for the transformation of the Department into a Faculty while with the Law for the advancement of the Higher School of Music into a Faculty. On the 1st of November in 1979, 10 years after the establishment of the Acting Department, the Higher School of Music became the Faculty of Music and Dramatic Arts with two separate units, the Faculty of Music, and the Faculty of Dramatic Arts. Since 1987, the Faculty of Dramatic Arts has been functioning as an independent academic institution within the frames of the University “St. Cyril and Methodi” in Skopje. FDA is consisted of the following departments: Production, Directing, Dramaturgy, Camera and Assemblage Department, which enroll new students every fourth year, while the Acting Department enrolls new students almost every year. During their four years of study, the students have the opportunity to make films in VHS, SVHS, BETA, on 16-mm, and even on 35-mm film tape. Pursuing the social movements in the country, FDA, in the academic year 1995/96, formed classes of actors with knowledge of the Albanian and Turkish languages. Throughout its existence, the Faculty has managed to provide the minimum technical conditions and premises necessary for realization of the teaching programs. FDA, at its disposal has: 4 classrooms, 4 auxiliary rooms for scene-making, an academic theater with a stage and 120 seats, an assemblage room, a library stock of 4.200 books, a film archive with 4.500 16-mm films and a VTR archive with more than 1.200 video tapes, a photo laboratory, sound and projection room, a Dean’s office and professors' cabinets, a cloak-room, a workshop, warehouses and other utility rooms. |
